For "Why Are All The Black Kids Sitting Together In The Cafeteria" By Beverly Daniel Tatum I am choosing to find some quotes with some importance to them.
My first quote is "We may not have polluted the air, but we need to take responsibility, along with others for cleaning it up." I think this is a quote that shows importance because even though there are people who didn't start the racism issue there is still an opportunity to fix it and treat one another the same no matter the color of their skin or their race, ethnicity, religion, etc. There will always be time to fix these divides in the nation.
My second quote that I found importance in was "Most white people, if they are really being honest with themselves, can see that there are advantages to being white in the United States" In this quote they are talking about White Privilege and sometimes white people don't notice that they have this but they do. White people have more advantages in life than a person of color.
My third quote is " It is also true that not al people of color are equally targeted by racism" They say that everyone has multiple identities that shape peoples experience and I believe that is true there are lighter skinned people who are treated either more as white or they are treated as black. I believe there should be no treating people different based on what their race is. There are people who are judges based on their sexuality, able-bodied, race, etc. People should not be judged because of these things everyone should be treated the same because we are all human.
